Birmingham service changes – Sunday August 29th 2021

As previously reported here, as well as many services returning to normal timetables following the schools summer holiday period, there are going to be changes to some services in the Birmingham area.

Full details can be found at the NX West Midlands website, some selected highlights I will list below.

North / East Birmingham

Service 38 (Erdington to Castle Vale)

This service will be withdrawn, partially replaced by revised 67 and 96 services.

Service 67 (Birmingham to Castle Vale)

Extends in Castle Vale to serve more of the estate, replacing the withdrawn 38 service. Terminus will become Farnborough Road, opposite Farnborough School.

Service 88 (Streetly to Erdington)
Service 89 (Old Oscott to Erdington)

Service 88 will be withdrawn by Diamond. Service 89 revised to serve ASDA Queslett, Warren Farm and Finchley Road; Old Oscott will be served by revised 96 service.

Service 96 (Kingstanding to Chelmsley Wood)

Daytime journeys will extend from Kingstanding Circle to operate a one-way loop around Old Oscott, replacing part of Diamond’s 89 service. It will also be revised to serve the Warrens Farm estate.

Between Castle Bromwich and Chelmsley Wood, the route will be revised to serve Bucklands End, part of Shard End, and Lanchester Way in Smithswood.

Service 604 (Mere Green to Kingstanding)

Route curtailed to operate from Kingstanding Circle, no longer serving Warren Farm estate. Route revised to serve Melrose Avenue and Monmouth Drive instead of Halton Road and Braemar Road. Extends from Mere Green to Hill Hook via Lichfield Road.

Service X3 (Birmingham to Lichfield)

Sunday journeys will be withdrawn. Additional X4 and X5 journeys will operate on Sunday to maintain current frequency between Birmingham city centre and Sutton Coldfield.

Service X4 (Birmingham to Minworth)

This service will be curtailed to operate between Birmingham and Falcon Lodge only.

Service X70 (Birmingham to Chelmsley Wood)

Renumbered as service X13, no change to route.

South / West Birmingham

Service 1A (Acocks Green to QE Hospital)

This service will be withdrawn, mostly replaced by new 41 service (see below). Service 1 has revised timetable to compensate.

Service 4A (Birmingham to Gospel Oak)

Extended from Gospel Oak to Solihull, mostly replacing service 31 which will be withdrawn. Daytime frequency increased to every 15 minutes from city to Gospel Oak, with alternate journeys every 30 minutes continuing to Solihull via Shirley.

Service 12 / 12A (Birmingham to Dudley)

Route revised in Edgbaston to operate along Portland Road and City Road, in order to improve frequency along that part of route currently served by 13 / 13A services to Oldbury and Blackheath.

NEW Service 20 (QE Hospital to Cofton Hackett)

Partially replaces service X20 which will be withdrawn. Serves all stops along Bristol Road every 30 minutes, passengers bound for city centre can change onto 61 / 63 / X21 / X22 services.

Service 27 (Maypole to Longbridge Station)

From Longbridge station, extends to Cofton Hackett via Thurleston Road, Edenhurst Road and Groveley Lane, replacing part of revised 45 service.

Route revised to operate directly along Frankley Beeches Road, no longer serving Allens Cross estate, which will be served by revised 61 service.

Service 31 (Acocks Green to Solihull)

Service will be withdrawn, replaced mostly by extended 4A service.

Service 32 (Shirley to Lyndon)

Route revised in Hall Green to operate directly along Shirley Road between School Road and Robin Hood Island.

Service 36 (Sparkhill to Heartlands Hospital)

Route revised in Tyseley/Sparkhill. From Olton Boulevard West, continues along Battery Way to Warwick Road, then extends to new terminus outside Small Heath station on Golden Hillock Road. Formans Road will be served by new 41 service.

NEW Service 41 (QE Hospital to Acocks Green)

Mostly replaces withdrawn service 1A, with route change in Tyseley/Springfield to cover changes to Claribels 36 service.

Service 45 (Birmingham to Longbridge)

Revised in Longbridge area, will operate directly along Coombes Lane, revised 27 service will cover Edenhurst Road and Thurlestone Road.

NEW Service 46 (QE Hospital to Northfield)

Replaces current 48 service between QE Hospital and Northfield, via Kings Norton, Hawkesley and West Heath.

Service 48 (West Bromwich to Weoley Castle)

Route revised from QE Hospital to operate to Northfield only. From QE will operate via Gibbins Road to Weoley Castle, then reverse of current route to Northfield. New service 46 replaces current route from Selly Oak to Northfield via Hawkesley.

Service 61 (Birmingham to Frankley)

Route revised to serve Allens Cross estate, replacing part of revised 27 service.

Service X20 (Birmingham to Cofton Hackett)

This service is withdrawn, replaced mostly by new service 20 between QE Hospital and Cofton Hackett.

Service X21 (Birmingham to Woodcock Hill)

Service X21 is extended to Bartley Green via Woodgate.
