UPDATED: Commonwealth Games service diversions

The Commonwealth Games 2022 come to Birmingham starting on 28th July, and some services will be diverted due to road closures in place.

1 – Five Ways to Acocks Green

From 18th July to 27th July 2022 and 9th August to 11th August 2022, service towards Five Ways will divert from Priory Road to Sir Harry’s Road, Ampton Road, Arthur Road, Wheeleys Road, St James Road, George Road, Islington Row Middleway to Five Ways Island and then Calthorpe Road. 

Service towards Acocks Green will divert from Calthorpe Road to Westbourne Road, Westbourne Crescent, Highfield Road, Harborne Road, Five Ways Island, Islington Row Middleway, Bath Row, Wheeleys Lane, Wheeleys Road, Arthur Road and Church Road to normal line of route.

From 28th July to 8th August, towards Five Ways this service will divert from Edgbaston Road to Willows Road, Hallam Street, Lincoln Street, Clevedon Road, Longmore Street, Belgrave Middleway, Lee Bank Middleway and Islington Row Middleway via underpasses to Five Ways Island, finishing at the terminus on Calthorpe Road. 

Towards Acocks Green this service will divert from Calthorpe Road to Westbourne Road, Westbourne Crescent, Highfield Road, Harborne Road to Five Ways Island, Islington Row Middleway, Belgrave Middleway, Longmore Street, Clevedon Road, Lincoln Street, Hallam Street, Willows Road and Edgbaston Road to resume normal line of route.

21 – Bearwood to Oldbury

From 28th July to 8th August, this service will divert down Thimblemill Rd, along Hales Lane, up Manor Rd, will then do a one-way loop around Londonderry Lane, Francis Rd, Shakespeare Rd and down Manor Rd, re-joining the normal line of route on the eastern part of Hales Lane. It will do this one-way loop in both directions.

41 – QE Hospital to Heartlands Hospital

From 28th July to 8th August, this service will divert in both directions from Priory Road via Pershore Road, Belgrave Middleway, Longmore Street, Clevedon Road, Lincoln Street, Hallam Street and Willows Road to Edgbaston Road/Russell Road Island.

35 – Birmingham to Hawkesley
45 – Birmingham to Longbridge
47 – Birmingham to Longbridge

From 28th July to 8th August, Pershore Street will be closed. Services 35, 45 & 47 will be diverted via Moat Lane/Moor Street, Park Street, Digbeth, Bradford Street, Barford Street and Sherlock Street. Buses will not stop on Smallbrook Queensway, Station Street or Pershore Street.

89 – Birmingham to West Bromwich

From 28th July to 9th August the 89 will divert from Londonderry Lane/Manor Road Crossroads via Manor Road and Hales Lane. Buses will not serve the top of Londonderry Lane, Thimblemill Road and the top of Hales Lane.

126 – Birmingham to Dudley

From 21st July to 8th August the 126 will be diverted along Broad Street whilst King Edward’s Road, St Vincent Street and Cambridge Street cannot be served.

X21 – Birmingham to Bartley Green
X22 – Birmingham to Woodgate

From 19th July to 9th August 2022 these services will be diverted from University Station via Vincent Drive, Pritchatts Road, Somerset Road, Metchley Lane, Harborne Road, Westbourne Road (from the city centre only), Five Ways Island and Islington Row Middleway to resume normal line of route at Bath Row.
