Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) and Bus Users UK have teamed up to host a series of events across the region where the public can have their say on bus services in their area, and offer suggestions on how to attract more new passengers to get on board.
There will be a chance to talk to TfWM and representatives from local bus operators who have been invited.
The next event will be an outdoor drop-in session at the TfWM marquee at Six Ways Island, Erdington on Tuesday 21st May., between 12:30pm and 3:30pm.
Future events are planned for the following dates:
- Monday 17th June – Bilston, Wolverhampton
- Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th July – Godiva Festival, Coventry (to be confirmed)
Events in other areas, plus events during “Catch The Bus Month” in September will be arranged for later in the year and further information will be sent out as they are confirmed.
If you’re unable to attend any of these events, you can still participate and have your say, email your comments to letstalkbuses@bususers.org, or fill in their quick online feedback form at “Let’s Talk Buses” Erdington

I live in Warley we arent near trains and trams the only other way to travel in car and taxi. Nobody is saying there should be a bus every 5mins but there should be more hourly and 30mins on each road so people can get to different local centres and facilities. The lack of service on many roads is a major problem. I could get to 3 local centres from my local stops and another centre not far away. Now its much more difficult. Many of the centres we need arent on train or tram lines anyway. Ive got a car now much more easier and less hassle than travelling by bus
NX and TfWM focused on bus services by The George Pub in Warley and completely ignored Smethwick my road still hasnt recovered from changes still no Bearwood bus in 12 years since 444 withdrawal!
As Ive said so many times before I am nowhere near short walking distance to either alternative buses or evening bus. I am in a high gradient area with higher proportion of elderly and disabled. I am higher than the Albion ground fhs with inadequate services. TfWM policy clearly states this and both NX and TfWM are breaking policy we have been treated appallingly by everybody
Reason people by me don’t use buses more is lack of direct food shopping/supermarket buses. The only bus by me is two hourly buses cobbled together and it’s only useful for Cape Hill as it drops you right by shops. Cape Hill isn’t better than other centres it’s just bus drops you by food shops. No other direct bus to food shops at all! The 89 and 48 are useless to use as they drop you too far away from where you live and a good walk uphill completely impractical. Might as well use 87 and 80 🙄 All badly designed. I am an expert shopping by bus and buses just aren’t practical to use is the reality, people on back streets need to have access to food shops and supermarkets they don’t want to be carrying bags and trolleys so much further across busy roads, car parks etc
I regularly see loads of 87s and 80 many 80s or 87s are either over full or very empty yet finding a bus to go by me is a needle in a haystack I see many users getting fed up and walking home and they don’t live by 80s and 87s. A bus lane may stop 87s bunching but it won’t attract anymore users as not everybody needs one. It won’t encourage the car users by me to use a bus (most by me own 3 or 4 cars each!) the traffic will still be same as most in their cars don’t live by 80 and 87 anyway so wouldn’t use them. People tend to think everybody in a car on Dudley Rd live right by the main buses – they don’t!
I doubt there will be one in my area of Sandwell. Cycle lanes by me are always empty built by station nobody uses but not one bus serving our areas to Galton Bridge at all 🤦 bus lanes wont get people by me out of cars and reliability and punctuality isn’t much of an issue more services going where people want to go and better links locally including a bus to Metro and train stations for those of us not on main routes so we don’t have to drive to them, would be far more attractive as somebody now with a car lack of local links is more of a problem. I have to walk a bit even to my local stop and walk loads when I get off the bus I don’t need to walk and cycle more just better local links to make a number of journeys
Me and my elderly mom are using Ring and Ride to get shopping from local Sandwell centres quicker, less tiring less hassle, safer, and less changing bus to go up the road far better than the convential bus services near me I’d even chose a taxi over our near indirect inconvenient bus services 👍
